Br. Eberhard Schaeflein, O.S.A. (1893 - 1952)

Br. Eberhard Schaeflein, O.S.A. entered eternal life April 25, 1952.

Eberhard Schaeflein was born June 25, 1893 in Stettbach, Germany.

He was received into the Augustinian Novitiate of the Province of Germany February 1, 1925. He professed simple (temporary) vows in the Order of St. Augustine February 2, 1926 and solemn (permanent) vows February 2, 1929.

Brother Eberhard was assigned by his Province to St. Rita High School, Chicago, Illinois. Later he became affiliated to the Augustinian Province of Our Mother of Good Counsel (Augustinians of the Midwest). He became a citizen of the United States in 1945.

During his 25 years at St. Rita High School, Brother Eberhard served as Sacristan and Janitor. He was a familiar and well-loved figure at St. Rita High School.

Brother Eberhard died April 25, 1958 of heart disease. He is buried in the Augustinian plot at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Alsip, Illinois.
