Whether or not a major election campaign is under way, the call to be Faithful Citizens continues.
Augustinians of the Midwest are encouraged to form their consciences for Faithful Citizenship. The Friars are also encouraged to assist those to whom they minister to do likewise.
The Augustinians invite and encourage all who identify with Augustinian spirituality and traditions to be Faithful Citizens.
The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops on its Web site offers guidance for Faithful Citizenship and calls all citizens of faith to political responsibility. The Bishops' guidelines help persons of faith to address political and social questions that arise during during and after election campaigns.
Included are resources for prayer and reflection, planning ideas for churches, lesson plans for adults and the young, and other helpful materials.
Neither the Augustinians of the Midwest nor the Catholic Bishops endorse any candidate for public office or any political party. We do encourage voters to base their political decisions on moral principles, including the defense of all human life in all its stages, the needs of the vulnerable and powerless, and the common good of all, in the light of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
