Augustinians Support Seven International Days

The international Augustinian Order, as an accredited Non-Governmental Organization (N.G.O.) at the United Nations, seeks to be an instrument for implementing values of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, as reflected in the social teachings of the Catholic Church, in the international forum.

The Order works to defend human rights, promote education and literacy, as well as economic and social development, and to foster a Culture of Peace.

The Augustinians around the world have selected seven International U. N. Days for special observance. These days give particular emphasis to Christian values. They are:

•        » World Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination
               Pray, reflect and act to end racism - March 21

•       » International Day of Families
               Support this world-wide May 15 observance to promote family-friendly policies

•       » World Environment Day
               Support this June 5 United Nations observance to promote Christian stewardship of the Earth

•       » International Day of Peace
               Support this September 21 United Nations observance for peace on Earth

•       » World Food Day
               Support this October 16 United Nations observance fighting hunger and malnutrition

•       » United Nations Day
               Mark the October 24 birthday of the U. N. --
               Learn how Millennium Development Goals promote Christian values

•       » Human Rights Day
               Observe the December 10 anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights

Augustinians of the Midwest are encouraged to mark these International Days in their communities and ministries. The Augustinians invite and encourage all who identify with Augustinian spirituality and traditions to do likewise.
