Augustinians of the Midwest - Province of Our Mother of Good Counsel - Order of St. Augustine Seal of the Augustinian Order

Christ is at once above and below: above in Himself, below in his people. Fear Christ above, and recognize Him here below. Here he is poor, with and in the poor; there he is rich, with and in God. Have Christ above bestowing his bounty; recognize Him here in His need. --St. Augustine, Sermon 123

After a request in 1963 from Pope John XXIII, the Augustinians of the Midwest accepted responsibility for the newly created Catholic Prelature of Chulucanas in northern Perú.

Augustinians have been involved in missionary activity for hundreds of years. Members of the Order currently working in Perú come from several different Provinces, including the Villanova Province, which co-sponsors our presence through the Vicariate of Saint John of Sahagún.

The missionaries working in Perú are committed to preaching the Gospel and helping the people they serve improve the extremely poor living conditions.

By helping to meet the material needs of these people, the missionaries are also preparing the poor to be more receptive to the message of Jesus, a message of justice and liberation for all people.

Augustinians from the United States (Midwest and Villanova Provinces) currently serve in the Catholic Diocese of Chulucanas, in Trujillo and in Lima.
