There are two loves, the love of God and the love of the world. If the love of the world takes possession of you, there is no way for the love of God to enter into you. Let the love of the world take the second place, and let the love of God dwell in you. Let the better love take over. --St. Augustine, Sermon on 1 John 2: 8
Home > Augustinian Volunteers
After many years of successful operation, the Volunteer Program of the Augustinians of the Midwest will be phased out during the Summer of 2008.
Midwest Augustinian Volunteers gave service to thousands of persons during the program’s existence. They served in schools, shelters, soup kitchens, street ministries and other settings.
Although the separate Midwest program is ending, opportunities to be Augustinian Volunteers will remain. Lay men and women interested in giving a year of voluntary service while living in community according to Augustinian spirituality and traditions are encouraged to consider the Villanova Augustinian Volunteers.
Villanova Augustinian Volunteers are currently serving in six locations: four in the U.S. (including one in Chicago), one in Peru and one in South Africa.
Augustinian Volunteers, in partnership with the Augustinian friars and others, work with educational, health service, social service and other programs, according to the needs of the sponsoring site and the individual volunteer.
The Augustinian Volunteer experience is designed to facilitate a person’s desire to serve others. It is also focused on the volunteer’s personal and spiritual development in the Augustinian tradition. By building and living in community with other volunteers and by sharing in the life of local Augustinian communities, it is hoped that the life of the Augustinian Volunteers will be enriched as they enrich the lives of others.
Details about the scope, goals, requirements, site locations, and service opportunities of the Villanova Augustinian Volunteers are available on the program’s Web site.
