Fr. Tom McCarthy Steps Down as Director of Vocations

Dear Friends of the Augustinians:

You may have recently heard that the Villanova Province named Fr. Joe Narog, O.S.A as their new Vocation Director, replacing Tom McCarthy, O.S.A. who has been Director for both Provinces for the past five years. After further reflection, Tom has asked to step down as Director for our Province too, which he has done for the past nine years.  He leaves these posts after having been highly effective and successful in bringing many new members into the Order.  But even good things come to an end, and it is time for a change.

Tom will continue to live out East as a Member of the Villanova Monastery Community, while living in a Freshmen Dorm. He will now have a part-time position at the University under Student Life as Augustinian Advisor for First and Second Year Initiatives, and he will have an office on campus. He will also continue his ever popular Parish Missions! I know that Tom will continue to promote vocations both on campus and in his parish missions, and forward them on to the Vocation Office when appropriate. The Council will appoint a new Vocation Director for the Midwest and Canadian Provinces at our next meeting.

Please join me in thanking Tom for his many years as a successful Vocation Director, and pray for him during this time of transition. Please also continue to pray for more vocations to the Order.

Fraternally in Christ and St. Augustine,

Very Rev. Bernard C. Scianna, O.S.A., Ph.D.
Prior Provincial of the Augustinians of Chicago, Canada, and Chulucanas, Peru
