St. Augustine Feast Day Message 2025
From the Desk of the Prior Provincial, Fr. Anthony B. Pizzo, O.S.A.
My brothers and sisters, as we celebrate the Feast of Saint Augustine, I want to take a moment to greet you with joy, gratitude, and hope.
We continue to walk in the footsteps of our spiritual founder, Augustine of Hippo, but this year, our celebration holds a special meaning. For the first time, a fellow Augustinian has taken his seat on the Chair of Peter.
Pope Leo XIV, formerly Cardinal Robert Prevost, O.S.A., an Augustinian from Chicago, is a man who has been formed in the Augustinian tradition. His life, his ministry, and now his papacy are marked by values we hold dear: interior reflection, a restless search for truth, and a deep love for community.
In these early months of his papacy, we’ve already seen his Augustinian spirit shine through his leadership. He calls the Church to unity, not uniformity. He invites dialogue, not division. And, like Augustine, he reminds us that the journey of faith begins in the heart with humility, conversion, and the desire to love well.
These are not just slogans or mottos, they are reflections of a Church modeled on friendship, mercy, and communion: values Augustine himself cherished.
So today, as we remember Augustine, his passion, his writings, and his restless heart, let’s also recommit ourselves to living Augustinian values in our own time. Let us be people of prayer and presence, of community and compassion, of truth and tenderness. Let us be the very embodiment of Christ in a world that cries out for mercy, healing and reconciliation.
And let us pray for Pope Leo XIV, that the Holy Spirit continues to guide him as he shepherds the universal Church in wisdom, justice, and love.
Happy Feast of Saint Augustine. May our hearts remain restless—until they rest in Him.

Mensaje de la Fiesta de San Agustín 2025
Mis hermanos y hermanas, al celebrar la Fiesta de San Agustín, quiero dedicar un momento para saludarlos con alegría, gratitud, y esperanza.
Seguimos caminando tras las huellas de nuestro fundador espiritual, Agustín de Hipona, pero este año, nuestra celebración tiene un significado especial. Por primera vez, un compañero agustino ha ocupado la Silla de Pedro.
El papa León XIV, anteriormente el cardenal Robert Prevost, O.S.A., agustino de Chicago, es un hombre formado en la tradición agustiniana. Su vida, su ministerio, y ahora su papado han sido marcados por los valores que apreciamos: la reflexión interior, la búsqueda incansable de la verdad y un profundo amor por la comunidad.
En estos primeros meses de su papado, ya hemos visto brillar su espíritu agustiniano a través de su liderazgo. Llama a la iglesia a la unidad, y no a la uniformidad. Invita al diálogo, más no a la división. Y, al igual que Agustín, nos recuerda que el camino de la fe comienza en el corazón con humildad, conversión y con el deseo de amar bien.
Estos no son solamente eslóganes o lemas, si no reflejos de una Iglesia basada en la amistad, misericordia, y comunión: valores que el propio Agustín apreciaba.
Entonces hoy, al recordar a Agustín, su pasión, sus escrituras, y su corazón inquieto, vamos a comprometernos también a vivir los valores agustinos en nuestro tiempo. Seamos personas de oración y presencia, de comunidad y compasión, de verdad y ternura.
Y recemos por el papa León XIV, para que el Espíritu Santo siga guiándolo mientras pastorea la iglesia universal con sabiduría, justicia y amor.
Feliz Fiesta de San Agustín. Que nuestros corazones permanezcan inquietos, hasta que descansen en Él.
